The 1756-L63 is a Chassis based controller. It is installed a variety of ControlLogix chassis such as 1756-A4, 1756-A7, 1756-A10, 1756-A13, and 1756-A17.It supports implementation of controller redundancy as well as integrated motion using Serial Real-Time Communication System (SERCOS), Analog options via encoder input, LDT input, SSI input and motion over Ethernet I/P network.

The 1756-L63 controller has a built-in RS-132 serial communication port. The communication options available for this controller include the DeviceNet, ControlNet, EtherNet/IP, SynchLink, Remote I/O, Data Highway Plus, and third-party process and device networks. Serial port communications modules that this controller supports are the Modbus via logic, DH-485, DF1 radio modem, ASCII, and the DF1 full/half-duplex modules.
